YASMIN SPEAKETH

hello one and all. i read fatma’s ‘marinated prawns’ and felt extremely touched. which also triggered me to do some for my international friends here this weekend hopefully.

sorry i took so long to blog. extremely busy. quick update: cheerleading competition on saturday with me as choreographer, we danced to LOSE MY BREATH by DC, thanks a million fatma for the mp3’s :) ) we only started practice on thursday night. it seemed so familiar, the last-minute-ness of it all haha. well we didnt win the cup though my house, mercator won soccer finals. the jury was biased towards college 3 whose cheerleading was to some sean paul repetitive number. EVERYONE said we were good, and that mattered to me more than the cup (i lie, i cheat myself,im trying to make myself feel better muahahah) anyways, then amid all that mumbo jumbo dancing shit, i have to prepare a presentation on RHETORIC for monday ie today. singapore edu system taught me well, i prepared 14 slides in 45 mins on thursday with a 7 page PDF file full of tiny fonts about rhetoric and aristotle and all that. so wish me luck i wow them with my impressive presentation skills. it’s graded by the way.

then every monday means lab quiz, so on top of the above mumbo jumbo restmüll (meaning ‘rubbish’ in german) i had to cramp my brain with psychophysics and thrustone scaling, half of which is so terribly boring i could cry. and i finally got myself tipsier than usual and i was nothing like the ‘high’ self u guys know. i was quiet and i was swaying slightly and when i dropped my coke bottle down the stairs, i bent TOWARDS the bottle instead of taking the steps TO the bottle, and the rest is history. there’s a tiny but devellishly sore bruise on the small of my back. :( (

i am currently getting 1.0s on my other school elective instead of my major: my second math assignment scored 198/200. shocking. i think its obscene: my lab quizzes are PATHETIC! perhaps i might become a math major next sem if things dont look too good. hahahha. oh god.

i am still reeling from shock and disgust at the TERRIBLE accents these eastern europeans have. god. GOD! this includes bad grammar as well. selected few speak perfectly here. there’s this brit-pakistani girl in my gender class with an amazing brit accent and she intimidates the teacher. hahaha. i love those classes ‘cos i enjoy seeing the teacher stutter when miriam raises her hand to slam her points on the feminine body or something on jane austen.

the food here can be really challenging to my palate. but ive been cooking and using my rice cooker to its maximum potential. i have been watching CSI season 3 episodes with a passion, simply ‘cos ive hardly had a TV-entertainment life since I came.

It’s been only a month, and my first mid-term exam is next thursday: math. good lord. they really don’t spare us here.

by the way, i got tipsy with sweet wine. jsut a mug full. and on an empty stomach, a fatigued body and mind, right after cheerleading. that explains it all. i mean, when i went to this zouk-like club called CAPITOL, outside bremen, i downed three whisky-cokes and a bottle of beer and was unaffected. i swear.

i really need to shop. thank god money’s coming in 2 days or so. then i’ll go crazy in hamburg. muahaha. EDB is coming to Köln/Cologne in November and all the singaporean students in germany are gathering then/there. Not really for the edb interviews but more for the gathering of singlish-speaking singaporeans who will celebrate hari raya together as well. wheeeeee!

on campus, diwali and hari raya/eid mubarak will be celebrated together! imagine that!!!! so fun!

germany GIVES incoming international students 150 euros for coming to germany to study. that’s about 330 sing bucks. im getting it this week.

rashez from VJ/TSD is applying to IUB, and i know she’ll get it. i’m kinda proud i pioneered the sporean undergrad batch. wheeeee. she will be doing integrated social sciences. i know her arrival will confuse the stupid international ppl here, cos she’s punjabi and all and they wont be able to understand why i look like this and why she looks like that and we come from the same country. those idiots. i can see it coming already. i hope to fabricate stories with rashez about our little pretty hot island. ;) )

hi guys. Next time those of you posting please indicate who you are by checking the boxes on the right side of the “write” page ok? Just so we all know who’s writing what.

Anyway, for those who don’t know and might wanna know, I’m at Ordnance Engineering Training Institute(OETI), once a.k.a Only Eat, Talk and Idle. Haha. Having once been in infantry, this place is like heaven. Very much unlike an army camp, ‘cept for the usual guard duties and extras. There’s a lot of senior ranking regulars around camp, many many captain and above, and mostly 2WO and above. The lowest ranking of my instructors is a staff sergeant, which is something like 7 ranks above private, if you include private first-class. Anyway my point is that it was really amusing see all those guys fresh from BMT shaking in their pants, overwhelmed by all the ampulets(the ranks that are worn on the shoulders) around camp.

The food here is absolutely great, once we got 2 chicken wings in one meal, and the very next day a WHOLE chicken was served. Compared to the food in other camps I’ve been to, this is good. Only bad thing for me is that this place is Ayer Rajah Camp, which is quite near ITE Dover or the anglo-chinese schools, for those who know the area.

And if you’re wondering how come I’ve ended up at this place, well it’s because I got downgraded, but only temporarily, due to my ankle problem. Basically, I once twisted it real bad in sec 3 while playing basketball during recess(what an unfamiliar word nowadays). Guess it never really recovered, and after bmt the pain returned, and my knee is somehow affected as well.

I’ve said so much about what happened in the past, it just goes to show how boring NS life is generally. For me, being in OETI is very much like going to school, only that after dismissal I go straight home and rest cuz well, there’s no cca, no homework (yet), and no one to go out to town with after “school”. But still it is already so much better than having to stay in.

I am less miserable now than I used to be, and take care all of you.

as it is in heaven

heys a52-ians:)
i watched the movie as it is in heaven yesterday and thought it was great :) tried to find a movie review about it online but cant find any! it’s Swedish btw..so maybe that’s why it’s hard to find anything abt it (not even any pictures!)
it’s the biggest Swedish box office hit of 2004 and e poster says “Music at it’s most magical since The Choir Boys:) ))
and since i love it so much i shall painstakingly type the synopsis manually!
here goes:

Daniel Dareus is a famous symphony conductor, but he is exhausted by the demands of his high profile lifestyle. Having sufferred a physical and emotional breakdown, Daniel abruptly interrupts his career and returns, alone, tho Norrland, the village of his childhood in remote northern Sweden. Soon he is asked to come and “offer a bit of good advice” to the small church choir, which practises every Thursday in the parish hall.

Daniel resists being dragged back into the spotlight, yet he finds no way to gracefully refuse the choir’s request. As he reluctantly begins to work with the choir, Daniel, quite to his own surprise, begins to rediscover his long-lost joy for music. But his work with the choir becomes a serious threat to the town’s status quo, and Daniel finds himself surrounded by enemies. Meanwhile, he makes new friends, among them the lovely and sensitive Lena. Daniel’s life and the lives of the Norrland folks, will never be the same again.

warning: it may be too draggy for some! and a lil bit cliche too actually

and if any of you see the soundtrack pls tell me! i’d love to buy it!

oh n girls pls note tt e male lead is NOT hot..quite old n balding actually haha (just in case some ppl think i watched it cos the poster had some hot men or sth haha)
n get ur tissue packets ready..i cried buckets.no, cups maybe.heh.

n i think only cine shows it..(where else can u watch wonderful non-hollywood movies??)

disclaimer: this is entirely my own opinion..dont scold me if you watch it later and think it’s crappy!
